Kitten Rescue

My friend found Olive on the side of the road and he couldn't keep her because his landlord doesn't allow pets.

I cannot help but save an animal since the time my two cats went missing in 2009.  I guess I will become the crazy cat lady when I'm old.

Immediately after I took her in I gave her a flea bath and combed out her fur.  She was infested with fleas and very skinny.  Thankfully she was eating solid kitten food, but she still wasn't pooping on her own.

Honestly I think every parent should go through a kitten fostering just to have a taste of what you go through with a real baby.  For about a week I would wake up every 3-4 hours to feed her and help pee/poop her.  When she finally did poop on my shirt on the second day I sighed with relief.

After about one week I took her to her first vet appointment.  Dr. McCall saw her for no charge and estimated she was about 4 weeks old at the time of the visit.  He was a wonderful vet who used his vast knowledge to encourage me to be as natural as possible.  I already had two cats and I try to buy organic and such for them, but it's nice to have a vet who agrees.

Batman and Olive
My boyfriend and I were unsure if we were going to keep Olive; three cats in a 650 sq. foot space can be pretty crowded.  This was until Batman, our medium haired black cat, literally adopted Olive like a single dad.  After this my boyfriend and I knew they were meant to be.

Right now Olive is about two months old and happily growing up in our house, chasing her tail like the cutie pie she is.  My other cat Anya stays relatively stoic when it comes to Olive, but I think Olive is growing on her.

Sometimes I think magick just tends to find you in the most mundane places.  Seeing a living being grow up under your feet makes me feel like I'm watching creation happen before my eyes.  On a simpler note, Olive is just too cute not to love.

I have adopted many cats in my life, some by sheer want, others fell into my lap.  If you can adopt please do and if you ever have an opportunity to save a life, please try.

Have you ever rescued an animal?  If so, what was your experience?

Pie Has Been Found

After over two months of searching a lady called my cell phone and told me she had Pie in her back yard for over two weeks and was very thankful to find he had an owner. At the time I was still getting over a cold turned sinus infection and wondered if the night I called upon Bast to help me find my furry baby had anything to do with finally finding him. Of course at the time I was exhausted from coughing and saw floating hamburgers, but magick works in mysterious ways.

I wish I had called her sooner and perhaps he would have been home, but I'm a believer in doing everything mundane first before calling up the universe to help me. Also, I already tried a Fairy Cat Return spell about a month before with little results, so it seemed a little greedy to ask for help again from the powers that be.

However, I think in my sickly state Bast saw past my karma and decided I had paid it off by being persistent and desperate to find my furry baby. In short I learned a valuable lesson in respect for the animals you care for. It's not right to take advantage of them, because they are as dependent on you as a human child and are not to blame for personal problems, even when they fling kitty treats everywhere.

So, thank you Bast and the powers that be for bringing my kitty back to me.

Blessed be :)

Missing Cat Update

Name: Pie
Color: Orange and White Tabby
Last Seen: Walters Ave, Campbell, CA, 10/29
Distinct Markings: He is missing a left eye.

Pie is about five years old and has been missing for days. We really miss him and have checked the shelters. One picture looked promising but they were closed on Monday and by Tuesday either killed him or set him up for adoption. We are still looking and cannot stop crying, please help us find our cat!

***UPDATE***
Four days ago, 11/3/2009, he may have been seen at the Farm Milk Dairy @ 900 San Thomas Aquino Rd, Campbell, Ca

San Jose Animal Care and Services Killed My Cat

Pie was a healthy, neutered and was missing a left eye. He was then taken to the City of San Jose Animal Care Center.

We were so relieved when we found his picture and called leaving messages and finally spoke to a real person. We gave her the information and said we would be in Tuesday to pick Pie up, but on Tuesday his website image was missing and so was Pie.
The shelter only keeps their lost animals for about four days, that is the minimum, and then they become the property of the City of San Jose. However we could not pick up Pie on Monday, his fifth day at the shelter, because they were closed.

In consequence, Pie was euthanized, despite the fact there was no way to retrieve him from the shelter on Monday and we called telling them his identification number and the fact he was our cat. Obviously, someone did not do their job, otherwise our cat would be home.

The policy gives little hope for a pet owner, especially for cats, because cats tend to wander and can be missing for a day for two. By the time you realize your cat is truly missing half your time was gone.

Then, you have to look in different shelters. Pie was not at the normal Campbell shelter, the Silicon Valley Animal Control Authority, but at the San Jose one. This was also time consuming.
Fist off, change the waiting period for lost animals to seven days, so owners can search more ground and have a change to actually find their pet.

Second, no euthanizations on days the shelter will be closed and do not count the days of closing as days of holding. If the family cannot pick up their beloved pet, then the shelter shouldn’t have the right to exterminate it.

Lastly, make the fines cheaper. It would have cost over 150$ to release Pie. It costs about 100$ for adopting a new kitten.

No wonder why people decide to abandon their animals, they cannot afford to bail them out of kitty jail.

We spoke to Staceey Dains about or detrimental situation and she attempted to blame us for Pie’s death, but it was her staff who either forgot or never bothered to write down the desperate pleas of a family for their cat’s life.

Policy needs to be changed, these shelters are supposed to be a safety net for our lost pets, not an execution chamber.
